Number of Crayons Needed: 4 Other Materials Needed: Pumpkin, tacky glue, tarp (or something to cover your work surface) and hair dryer or heat gun Directions:
Step 1: Remove all of the paper from the crayons.
Step 2: If
your crayons are close to full size, break them in half. You want about two inch pieces to glue on the
top of your pumpkin. Step 3: Once the
glue is dry, take your hairdryer and melt the crayons on the pumpkin. They will start melting down the sides of the
pumpkin.
Number of Crayons Needed: 24 (you can adjust this depending on the size of your canvas or cardboard) Other Materials Needed: Canvas or piece of cardboard; low temperature glue gun with glue; hair dryer (or heat gun), Sharpie marker, scissors Directions: Step 1: Take your canvas or cardboard and write in large letters some "inspiring" word with a Sharpie marker in the corner.
Step 2: Lay out some crayons on your canvas from color order (red to purple) or from darkest to lightest.
Step 3: Once you have your crayons laid out, take a low temperature glue gun and plug it in for five minutes to preheat.
Step 4: Once the glue gun is ready, find a partner and have one person place the glue onto each crayon. Have the other person place the crayons onto the canvas in the order that you put them in when you first planned out the project. As soon as a crayon gets onto the canvas, press down and count to 15 in your head.
Step 5: Wait about 15 minutes for the glue to dry, then the fun part begins! Take your canvas and lay it vertically on a chair or something like that.
Step 6: Grab a hair dryer and set it to the hottest setting. Then, slowly spread the air from the dryer on the bottom half of each crayon. The crayons' wax will melt and fall down the canvas. Keep going back and forth with the hair dryer until each crayon is well melted. You might want to melt the crayons on one side more than the other -- this will give the project a cool-looking angle.
Step 7: Let the wax dry, and then your project is done!
Number of Crayons Needed: At least 20 - 30 crayons of different colors for each letter. The number of crayons will depend on the letter, and if you do first and last initials. Other Materials Needed: Paper, glue, pencil
Directions: Step 1: Take a piece of paper and draw out your letters in block form. This will be your template for the crayons. Step 2: Take the crayons and soak them all in a bowl of water, then tear their wrappers off. Then, carefully cut the crayons in different sizes so they can fit your template.
Step 3: Take some hot glue or any other strong sticking material and put it on the template.
Step 4: As you are putting glue down, lay your crayons on the template. The cut crayons will let you have the cryaons on evenly, not sticking out of the template lines. Always make sure that you lay the crayons on horizontally, not at random angles. **Try to use all the leftover pieces from you crayons too!
You may want to add some other extra details to your design. This could be a frame, or you real name on the corner of the paper. Always remember to keep your finishing touches recyclable or already recycled!
Number of Crayons Needed: Small pieces of 2 - 4 different colors of crayons Other Materials Needed: Clear glass ornaments, hair dryer or heat gun, heat resistant gloves or oven mits, something to put your ornament on (we used the tray the ornaments came in) Directions:
Step 1: Gather your materials.
Step 2: Remove the top of the ornament. Place the small pieces of crayon inside the ornament. Put your heat resistant gloves or oven mitts on. WARNING: THE ORNAMENT GETS HOT!
Step 3: Put the top back on your ornament and turn on your hair dryer. Heat the sides of the ornament with the hair dryer until the crayons begin melting. Rotate the ornament while the crayon is melting to spread the colors out.
Step 4: Let the ornament cool in the ornament package.
Number of Crayons Needed: 4 Other Materials Needed: Paper cups, Popsicle sticks or toothpicks, clear scented wax, double adhesive tape, a wick, a glass container, labels, microwave Directions:
Number of Crayons Needed: 12 or more, in a number divisible by 4, depending on how large you want your tower. Crayons should be as close to full size as possible, or try to keep them the same size. Other Materials Needed: Hot glue gun with at least one glue stick Directions:
Step 1: You can leave the paper on the crayons, or take the paper off. The hot glue works better if you leave the paper on. Step 2: Get two crayons and lay them 2 1/2 inches apart. The width of your structure may have to be adjusted if you have smaller crayon pieces. Step 3: Lay two other crayons on top of the first pair so they lay across the first pair like this:
Number of Crayons Needed: Depends on number of letters you are making Other Materials Needed: Method 1 - Alphabet letter mold, oven or toaster oven, oven mitts; freezer; Method 2 - Alphabet letter mold, oven or toaster oven, oven mitts, glass jars; freezer, paper towel Directions:
Hello! This is part of the North Hill robotics team,
and today we are going to show you a craft you can make out of recycled
crayons. Did you know that crayons are
made out of wax and wax can’t decompose in landfills? This means that crayons hurt the environment. We are showing this project
because we don’t want you putting your crayons in the trash, and hurting the
environment. Let’s get started!
There are 2
ways to make crayon letters. These
instructions will show you both ways.
Keep in mind, these methods take different amounts of time to make the
crayon letter. It’s your choice of which
method you want to use. You can do this
as many ways as you want. You can also
use your own method for this protect.
Remember, use your imagination.
It’s your turn to be creative.
Step 1: You will need a silicone letter mold. If you have one, great! If you don’t, that’s okay. You can buy one on amazon for about $10.00.
Step 2: Gather crayons. You may choose any colors, but choose the
colors you want to see in your crayon letter.
You can either choose a couple colors, or a lot of colors. It does not matter how many crayon you pick.
Note: The net steps of these instructions will
split off into 2 parts. They will do this
because there are 3 ways to make these letters.
Method 1
Intro: This method is the easiest way to make
crayon letter. This method makes your
crayon letter looked spotty. We call
this the spotty method!
Step
3: Preheat your oven to 350˚F. Also, put as many crayons as you can fit
into the mold.
Step
4: Put your mold into the oven. An
easy way to put it in and out of the oven is to put the mold into a tin. Set a timer for 10 minutes.
Step
5: Take the mold out of the oven. Your crayons should be melted. If that is the case, put more crayons in
the mold. Next, put the mold back into
the oven, and set a timer for 5 minutes.
Step
6: Take the mold out of the oven and
transfer it to the freezer.
Step
7: Take the mold out of the
freezer. Pop the letters out of the
mold and you are done!
Method 2
Intro: Method 2 is called the layering
method. It is also very similar to
method 1.
Step
3: Preheat your oven to 350˚F. Next, fill the mold with crayons halfway up
to the mold. Then, put it in the
oven. Set a timer for 10 minutes.
Step
4: Take the mold out of the
oven. Then transfer the mold to the
freezer.
Step
5: While you are waiting for the
letter to cool in the freezer, put new crayons into a glass jar. This will be the second layer of your
crayon letter. Then, put the glass jars into the oven and set a timer for 10
minutes.
Step
6: Take the jars out of the oven. The jars will be hot so you might want to
make paper towel holders so you can easily grab the jar.
Step
7: Take the mold out of the oven. Pour the crayon in the jar into the
mold. When you are done with that, put
the mold back into the freezer. Set a
timer for 10 minutes.
Step
8: Take the mold out of the
freezer. Pop the letters out of the
mold. Now you are done!
